Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a public speaking event organizer. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. The site hosts videos featuring commentary and analysis of the depictions of women in contemporary culture. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian as well as an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency is an educational site for non-profit organizations that explores the representations of females in the popular media narratives. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is her main focus. However, Sarkeesian also highlights issues related to specific harassment of women on the internet and other minorities that are marginalized. Sarkeesian who has an MA in Social and Political Thinking from York University, is a popular public speaker. She has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and the United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. She was fascinated by feminist issues, gender and gender equality from a very young time. When she graduated in 2009, in university, she created the Feminist Frequency site. The site was created by a woman in her early 20s with a dream to develop an online series to examine the how gender is represented in video games. However, she became victimized by online harassment. The attack wasn't enough to halt her. Instead, it increased her importance to being a feminist and a media critic. Her many notable contributions in the feminist field are recognized with numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winning media journalist. She also serves as the director and founder of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit organization that explores pop culture gender representations.
